Bob Bilinyarra Painting
Aboriginal bark painting by Bob Bilinyarra

Object type: Bark painting
Locality: Central Arnhem Land Northern Territory Australia
Artist: Bob bilingyarra
Circa: 1980’s
Length: 50.5 cm
Description:
This wonderful bark painting was recovered by a picker in a New Zealand Opportunity shop. It is virtually identical to the one in theĀ Museum of Contemporary Arts collection on page 92 of the book: They are meditating: Bark paintings from the MCA’s Arnotts collection. It depicts a circumcision ceremony which was central to male initiation into manhood. I love the looseness of the figures and the sense of dancing movement
